Welcome!

I use this blog to illustrate what I'm learning during my year-long apprenticeship at Keala'ola Farm on the Big Island of Hawaii.

Stalking green bananas, ripe enough for harvesting, has been a recurring theme to our adventures. Lots of tiny tahitian bananas, sweet apple bananas, we even found some fat round pink ones on the way to a cave last week. Banana plants amaze me. They grow to full height and maturity in only a few months and can be cut easily with a machete. A true jungle plant, I've seen them growing throughout the wilder parts of Maui.

Papayas are a bit harder to get at, growing into taller more permanent trees...This bunch hung about 20 feet up, we didn't climb for them.
