The past few days I woke up early to run or walk around this Maui Meadows neighborhood--an eclectic combination of family homes and creative mansion vacation houses, all well tucked into the folds of palm branches and plumeria blooms. I've found a craving for music lately and have delighted in slipping out the screen door while the rest of the household sleeps for some private musical meanderings in the cool air of early morning. jill scott slithers in my eardrums a sweet sensual salve...joni mitchell an exuberant opening-of-the-eyes poetry, bluegrass for my country soul, hip-hop for the ancient ever-present rhythm-beat of my heart...all set to the tune of birdsong and wind wooshing.Adventuring continues full force with Jeff and Erin leaving in a few days. Mahi-mahi burgers satisfy after hiking to Twin Falls fresh water pools...beach runs and getting really really excited about jumping into the ocean (who knew I'd be spending my time doing this after graduating? certainly not me). Surfing and people-watching at Ho'okipa Beach comforted me that real people live on Maui too--there were so many beautiful little kids skidding through the waves and screaming with glee on the sand. They remind me to play; that every day calls to us to make something beautiful out of it, to mold it to our liking, and likewise be flexible enough to allow its whims and fancies to bend us without breaking. To be in the flow, a balance of control and letting go, the expansion and contraction of the palm that Rumi talks about.
Yesterday strong sun and sly shade played a trick on me. The hour-long hand stand/dance
session in full sun at noon couldn't have helped either....so today I contract and play vampire. I'll meditate. Write letters. Be alone. And send off some more photos for you, my loved and loving ones. Namaste.
Above and below: An incredibly windy and magical cliff area in the northwest part of the island.

Below: God clouds, as my mama calls them...can't you just see buddha and jesus and shiva and mohammed and pan and medusa and all the rest having a wild party up there, light streaming down from their revelries?
