Welcome!

I use this blog to illustrate what I'm learning during my year-long apprenticeship at Keala'ola Farm on the Big Island of Hawaii.

Long lost molly returns to the virtual world

Hello everyone!

My last post was May 15th...so much has occurred since those long Michigan spring days. I took a job as the Head Cook at Point Reyes Summer Camp, which lead to a grueling and rewarding summer of food and natural beauty on the northern california coast. I've never taken on that much responsibility before--myself and two assistants created 3 meals a day for 70 people! There was a lot more organization, management skills, and long hours than I'd anticipated. I learned so much, and I'm delighted to be done. Luckily, summer camp is much more than simply my job...the community we build each summer is sustaining and so fun. And the landscape takes over my senses; there is such a particular smell and feeling to the place as well as its incredible visual beauty. I combined all that middle-of-nowhere loveliness with quite a bit of time in the big city of San Francisco, visiting my friend Joel. Daunting, cities are, but invigorating and SF is about as welcoming as cities come.

The past two weeks I've spent catching up on sleep and fun in ol' Arcata. Thea and I are pretty constant companions; I have dinner waiting when she comes home from a long day in the teaching credential program. The Redwoods soothe my scattered heart; the old friends are important pieces of my spider web, holding me strong when I need it.

The biggest, juiciest piece of news about me is this: I am moving to Vermont! Whoa, really moving. Cautiously poking roots into the soil, unpacking the burdensome backpack, getting to know my local librarian and which hiking trails are accessible from downtown Montpelier. It's very exciting. It was a very recent decision. And I am very happy about it. Chelsea and I will be living in a sweet little place on School Street in Montpelier....hmmmmm....logicistically beyond that I'm not too certain. It always falls into place, eh?

There's more. There's always more. Especially when attempting to describe the last three months in a couple of paragraphs. But I trust we will have those conversations outside of this realm. Please do contact me. Big blessings to you all.
